Progressing Contemporary Technique is an innovative program that focuses on activating muscles groups through a process of utilizing resistance and strength training. Afro-Contemporary This Horton-based class will introduce movements from Haitian folklore. Choreography will be grounded, fast-paced and high energy. There will be lots of floor-work with an emphasis on technique. We will focus on the contract and release of the body and how to effortlessly change position and direction.

Contemporary Ballet is a play on a classical ballet class and features progressive and accentuated movement both at the barre and in center. The class will help students to expand upon their ballet technique and develop a larger vocabulary for movement and quality of  movement

Contemporary Acro Flow Class begins with a conditioning athletic warmup. Through center, across the floor series, and improvisation, dancers will learn basic floorwork techniques focusing on release and resistance into the floor. Combining multiple modern dance and floor techniques, dancers will investigate their relationship with gravity and practice inversions and basic acrobatic movements through phrasework.

Contemporary Hip-Hop is a fusion of qualities used to create humanistic movements and connections. Contemporary is a style that welcomes freedom and discovery. Hip-hop is a style that calls for groundedness, strength with controlled speed and precision. Together you have a mixture of qualities that turn into textures forming a unique style.

Improv and Partnering will explore multiple avenues for improvisation and contemporary partnering. Dancers will be given differing objectives, initiations, contact tasks, and other forms to explore and create new movement pathways. As we dive into contact improvisation, dancers will be introduced to contemporary partnering. Students will learn partnering techniques to help them achieve ease and suspension as they practice weight sharing and lifts.
